Too much of beauty lays me under siege.
I ready now to fight against its force,
yet find myself unable to resist.
Its call through violets and violins,
within this strident meadow, bids me yield
and lay aside the weapons of my will.
And as a vanquished warrior, I must
become its servant in surrender’s grace.
And in that service I at last partake
the quiet bliss of a defeated joy.
