Shine On You, Crazy Diamond

I see myself in the mirror of the water, clear as a diamond:
dim moments in which words seem to be born not from me, but from a ghost.

In that dimmed mirror, I see a stranger who does not speak in words
but in indistinct sounds, and from that silence
another self begins to surface, faint and estranged.

My words, precisely set yet scarcely considered, cry out from the mouth of that stranger.
These symmetrical tremors, sung by that other self, are nothing but
the asymmetry of my being.
